Small Groups

The following small groups meet at St. Mary’s for fellowship and spiritual connection and growth. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Tuesday Tabletalk

Who are we? We are a mixed and friendly group of people, some attend Church and some don’t. We all gather at Faiths house to share cake and coffee and chat about faith and spirituality in a warm, relaxed, environment.
When do we meet and what do we do?  We meet on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at Lockswood Cottage, Petworth Road (almost opposite The Swan). Join us at 10:15 for coffee, chat and cake or drop by at 11am as we begin chatting about the weekly topic and pray for each other and the world.

The Compline Group

Who are we? We are a mixed group of all ages and stages along the journey of faith who meet to pray together for an hour, following the traditional order of service for Night Prayer known as Compline. Compline means ‘completion of the working day’ and was the last of the seven daily offices of prayer kept by monks since the 6th century. We pray, as they did, for the needs of the world, the church, the local community, for those we know and for one another.
When do we meet, what do we do? We meet at 7.45pm on the fourth Wednesday of each month at Cricket Green Cottage, School Lane. The evening begins with a time of welcome and settling, a short reflection followed by sharing of requests for prayer. During the time for prayer each person takes the ‘holding cross’ and either puts a prayer into words or prays with others in silence. After a few minutes the cross is passed to the next person. At 8.45 the time of prayer is brought to a close following which people leave quietly. All agree that what is spoken remains confidential.

A Place at the Table

Who are we? We are a mixed and friendly group of people, some attend church and some don’t. We gather around Faith’s kitchen table for fellowship, food, spiritual input and lively conversation.
When do we meet, what do we do? We meet monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Lockswood Cottage, Petworth Road (almost opposite The Swan) from 7 – 9pm. We make plans in advance for a simple meal and everyone brings what has been agreed. The meal starts with the Grace and lasts for around 45 mins; then we continue, while seated at the table, to reflect together on whatever we have chosen. We recently enjoyed “Six encounters with Jesus from the Gospel of Luke”. Alternatively we may discuss a topic introduced by one of the group. We close with prayer.
