Latest Coronavirus Guidance across the Parish

Coronavirus: How it affects Church Life

Dear Friends,

We look forward to welcoming many members of our community back to church now we are open once more for public worship.  We do so in accordance with guidance from Her Majesty’s Government and her Bishops.

The usual provision of Sunday worship materials on the website, on YouTube, Facebook and by delivery will continue.

Maintaining social distancing and hygiene will be essential to our resuming public worship. A number of measures have been put in place to help keep everyone safe when they come to church:

• The wearing for face-coverings is mandatory.

• Hand sanitiser is available for you to use as you enter the building and before you receive communion.

• On arrival you will be asked to give your name and phone number - this condition is required should there be a case of COVID 19 then the details may be passed on for track and trace purposes.

• We recommend that you arrive early, as stewards will be guiding you to your seat. Individuals will be seated 2 metres apart, and family groups will be seated together.

• We warmly welcome our children and young people as they are part of the worshipping body of Christ. They must be supervised by parents or guardians at all times and appropriate hygiene precautions followed. If you want to bring something to occupy fidgety hands, please do! At this stage, guidance does not permit us to open the children’s corner or to re-start our All Stars Sunday school program.

• During August there is a service of morning prayer at 10 am.  Parish Communion will resume in September subject to guidance at the time.

• Service sheets will be provided as usual. They will be quarantined for >72 hours after each use. Pew sheets will be provided, and we ask that you take your sheet home with you.

• Communion will be received in one kind as it was before the lockdown (bread only).

• If the weather allows the doors will be kept open to allow a through-flow of air and reduce the need to touch door handles.

• Please do not gather in groups as you enter and leave the church.

• We regret that we are not permitted to offer refreshments after the service. We will try to accommodate as many as we can within the guidelines, but please do not be offended if you are asked to attend another service. Social distancing severely reduces the church’s seating capacity. In time we hope to add a further Sunday service at 8 am (likely a 1662 Holy Communion). Evening Prayer on Tuesdays and Morning Prayer on Saturdays will be held in the chapel rather than the south aisle to allow distancing, and you may feel less anxious at one of these services.

We move forward in faith and trust and in care for one another. And with patience (this is new territory for us all).

With my love and prayers,
